15 Years Old Kitchen DIY Renovation of A Manhattan Condo – Part 7: Tile the Marble Mosaic Backsplash

The wall of my kitchen was bare for three months because I was debating if I should do it myself or hire a professional. I did some research and decided I should give it a try. I started to find the tiles that I want and have them delivered to me.

1. First, the removal of the tiles is an art. It is better to remove the tiles without tearing down the wall. It would save you a lot of work later when patching up the wall. I taped a lot of papers and plastic to protect the counter top and faucet.
2. I put up a plastic sheet to divide the kitchen and the living space because this kind of work creates a lot of dust and dirt.
3. More protection for my counter top and appliances.
4. I protected my future like there was no tomorrow. I put cardboard on my wooden floor too.
5. The wall needed a good patch in order to tile the wall perfectly.
6. The patch work was dry and ready for tiling.
7. I laid out the mosaic tiles on the wall so I can have an idea how many tiles I need and I can pre-cut them
8. It is better to pre-cut the tiles before tiling because the mortar dries really quickly.
9. I arranged the tiles so I knew the order when I put them on the mortar.
10. The first raw of the tiles was done.
11. The second raw was done.
12. The bigger wall was done as well.
13. I chose a white grout. The pattern of the mosaic popped out.
14. The other side of the wall looked amazing too.
